HOVINGHAM ,Yorkshire, England ---------------This was a day trip to the lovely village of Hovingham ,on the edge of the Howardian Hills, in North Yorkshire England. Set in the Heart of rural Yorkshire, in the Ryedale District . It is 17 miles from York and 8 miles from Malton. In the centre of the village is Hovingham Hall and Estate owned by the Worsley family for 450 years. Built between 1750 and 1770 by Thomas Worsley to his own design. The house is only open to the public during the whole month of June. In 1961 the daughter of Sir William Worsley ,Katharine ,married the Duke of Kent in York Minster. The Duke is cousin to Queen Elizabeth 11.------------------- I had picked this day to visit the village because of the market held once a month. Colourful with over 50 stalls , selling many different items.-------[img=https://photos.travellerspoint.com/935071/DSCN1133.JPG

MARKET

--------------------- Exploring the village i noticed a beck ( stream ) flowing through the village and that houses were built of sandstone. All Saints church is next to the hall and has a Saxon tower, the rest of the church was rebuilt in 1860. Because of the market there were a lot of cars parked, to a system of one side of the road only. In the Main street was Hovingham Inn pub . In High street was the Worsley Arms hotel established in 1841. At the back of the building is the Cricketers Bar where i had a York ham sandwich and a pint of beer.-------------The beer is from Black Sheep brewery, which as the name suggests is a split from the family brewery of Theakston.-----DSCN1142.JPG----------------I had travelled from the City of York by Coastliner bus to Malton bus station to catch 194 bus to Hovingham, this bus runs 6 buses a day M to F , and 4 buses on Saturday. Malton rail station is next to bus station. -- An odity is the Malton bus station and rail station are in the town of Norton.-------------Hovingham was mentioned in the English Doomsday book,.
